We had our sweet treats (thanks for sending those in and thanks to everyone who sent in supplies, showed up to help, and thanks for supporting us through this crazy day:) and then we decided to do some Candy Corn races!

Halloween...Halloween

It's been a fun day so far with our costume parade and the haunted house. They are wiped! As evidenced by the fact that everyone was napping within 2 minutes today. I am going to let them rest a bit and try to keep the party pretty relaxed so that they are not terribly worn out for you this evening. We made trick or treat bags this morning and we have had our salty snack and one piece of candy. We will be having our sweet treats this afternoon. Thanks so much for helping with all of the things needed in our classroom! I will upload pictures of the party later today. I hope everyone has a very Happy Halloween and has a fun and safe time trick-or-treating this evening!

Halloween Agenda

Good Afternoon! The excitement for Halloween in our classroom is off the charts! We are doing H is for Halloween, Haunted House, and the Holy Spirit this week. This afternoon we are going to a special Halloween carnival our big buddies are throwing for us so your kiddo may be bringing home special treats and prizes this afternoon. Thanks to all of those who have sent in the items they signed up to bring and thank you for letting me know that the others are arriving tomorrow. Here is an outline of the schedule for tomorrow:
7:00-7:45: Students arrive at school in their costumes (even Miss Brittney will be wearing hers). Please have your child either wear their day clothes under the costume or send clothes along as we will be changing out of our costumes for recess and lunch.
7:45-8:10: Centers and crafts to calm us down a bit.
8:10-8:25: Jobs, dance time, bathroom break
8:25-8:30: Line up for parade.
**Parents meet us in the classroom at 8:25ish if you would like to do the Parade with us**
9:30: Wrap up parade, go to classroom, say good-bye
9:35: Change out of costumes, recess
9:50-10:10: Volgelweid Haunted House
2:15: Classroom parties-the other classes do not invite parents to the classroom parties. I am inviting parents to come but please do not feel like you have to come. I know that we are already having the parade but I want to leave an open invitation for parents to come if they would like.
Whoa it is going to be a busy day, so rest up families! We also had a fun afternoon with our big buddies!!!! See you all in the morning!

Busy, busy, busy

Hello, getting ready for conferences but wanted to take a minute to say, we did a lot of different and fun things today. Our gak worked today! (Thank you God for answering my early morning prayers today!) and we painted our feet, yes our feet and yes they are very ticklish so it was quite interesting... I will be seeing some of you at conferences either today or tomorrow but as always if you have any questions or concerns about your child, please email me, text me, stop in in the mornings or evenings, I will be happy to listen and try to help. Have a great afternoon, and we will see you after school.

Noontime News

Good Afternoon! Today we did some science and had a parent lunch day. Parent lunch day went great, thanks for coming! Brody and Murrow really enjoyed getting to eat lunch with you all. Our science went...not as great. We tried to make gak but the glue was not cooperating so we decided that that experiment did not work so we will try it again this afternoon. That's how science goes sometimes. So instead we made puffy paint using glue and shaving cream. It went a lot better! Hopefully our second attempt will be successful.
Tomorrow is the first day of parent teacher conferences, if you signed up but have not received a paper with your time on it, please let me know.
And I have just been hand delivered school pictures!! So those will be going home tonight:)
Have a great afternoon, see you after school.

Monday Message

Good Afternoon! We are having a spooky day so far in Preschool, we sang the song 5 Ghosts bouncing on the lake and now there are ghosts flying around my windows. But they are nice, friendly ghosts I have been assured. I have a feeling letter G is going to be a lot of fun...
We also recapped letter J by looking through the items that Olivia brought back in the letter bag. The Jenga block was a big hit! Thank you to Olivia's mom for helping her find all those J words.
This Thursday, we will be doing the Pledge of Alligence for KOMU 8 which will be televised at some point (I will be sure to let you know when you can see your cuties on TV:), if you would NOT like for your child to participate, please let me know and I will have some toys in the office for them to play with while we do the pledge. I told them that since they do such a great job of saying the pledge every day, we are having a movie made about us. I took them to the library where we will be set up on Thursday and we talked about things we will see when a movie is made (cameras, a director, so different people, lights, etc.). They seemed pretty excited so I hope we can keep that momentum until Thursday.
Thanks for sending back the assessments and the conference form. The conference schedule will be out later this week. If you have not sent it back yet, please do so as soon as possible. Thanks!
Parent lunch day for S-Z is tomorrow at 10:50 for our class.
That's it for today, see you after school.

Life's a dance, you learn as you go....

Good Afternoon! So I learned this morning that when making Jell-O Jigglers, you have to spray the mold before you pour in the Jell-O, so for all of you who may not have known this, well now you do, you're welcome :) It turned out ok though because the jigglers still looked like Jack-o-lanterns at snack and the kids really enjoyed eating them, and pulling on them, and jiggling them...This afternoon we are invited to Mrs. Dampf's 2nd Grade classroom for stories and snacks, they are pretty excited about it!
Assessments will be in the cubbies tonight, along with sign up sheets for parent teacher conferences. If you would like a conference please fill out the sheet and return it with the signed assessment on MONDAY, OCTOBER 23rd. Thanks!
Conferences will be October 25th and 26th so no after care and then no school on October 27th.
Next week we will be doing letter G for God (religion) and Ghost (Halloween). It should be a really fun time, I am looking forward to us using puffy paint for the first time...
Until next week, have a great weekend and we will see you after school.

Hear ye, Hear ye

Sorry for the title but I am listening to Disney Piano music at naptime and it seemed appropriate to go sort of Midevil...Anyhow, Happy Afternoon! We had a busy morning of pretending to be Jampires. We read a story about these cute little creatures that eat all of the jam out of everyone's doughnuts so we became Jampires and made peanut butter and jam cracker sandwiches for snack. Then we made jack-o-lanterns by ripping up construction paper, a skill that seems so simple but is actually kind of tough for these little ones. They turned out really cute, if not a little abstract.
Tomorrow, assessments will go home along with a sign up sheet for parent teacher conferences times. If you would like a conference, please fill it out and return it on Monday. Parent teacher conferences will be next week, Wednesday October 25th and Thursday October 26th, so there will be no after care on those days. This also means there will be no school on Friday, October 27th.
That is all for today, have a fantastic afternoon and we will see you after school.

Wednesday Wrap-Up

We are doing our first long term, multi-step project. We started this morning and will wrap it up this afternoon. They are being so patient while waiting for directions and for their turn to work on their 3D Jack-o-lantern that it makes me so proud of them! I thought doing letter J would be kind of tricky but its actually been a lot of fun, we have made a lot of cute Jack-o-lantern things and tomorrow we are going to read a funny book called "Jampires" and make a special Jam snack. On Friday I am going to bring in Jack-o-lantern Jello Jigglers, so it should be a tasty rest of the week.
Just a reminder that assessments will go home Friday and Parent Teacher Conferences will be next week, October 25th and 26th, with no after care on those days. We are also off of school next Friday, October 27th. Sorry for all the crazy scheduling, thus goes the school year. Have a great afternoon and we will see you after school!

It's no longer Monday...

Happy Afternoon! Tomorrow is already Wednesday which is great but not because there are so many cute Jack-O-Lantern things I want to get done but we got a super adorable craft done today so yay! These munchkins are so awesome, today the fire trucks came for the First Grade classes to look at and as our kids are walking to recess they yell, "Miss Brittney, turn around! There's a J on the Fire Truck!!!" They were right, there was a J for Jefferson City on the truck and they were so excited! Every morning after the pledge, we talk about what country do we live in? Do you know what colors are on the flag? We have recently started talking about how we live/go to school in Jefferson City, Missouri. It was so nice getting to make a real connection between that and the J on the Fire Truck. Thank you God for making teaching come to life some days!
A few announcements: Assessments will be going home this week, for sure this time. I believe there will also be a sign up sheet for conferences sent home the same day as the assessments.
Parent teacher conferences will be October 25th and 26th from 3:30-7:30 each day. Since these begin right after school, there will be NO AFTERSCHOOL CARE. Sorry for the inconvenience, and we are also off school on Friday, October 27th.
In the cubbies tonight will be an order form for Spirit Wear Shirts. There are no specific Preschool shirts but there are plenty of St. Peter's Saints shirts for sale.
That is it for today. If you have any questions about conferences or assessments, please let me know :)
See you all after school.

Sleepy Friday

Happy Friday Everyone! We are really enjoying Pajama Day here in Preschool. But it makes me want to ask a question-slippers are so comfortable and functional, why are they not a part of society's dress code?! Anyhow, it has been fun seeing all the kiddos run around in their PJs. We have had a lot of fun with it by laying down and resting at circle time so we could make patterns with our feet to having a (structured-ish) pillow fight before lunch. We also tried to plunk pumpkin seeds into a pail which was really fun. We got an invitation this morning to attend Mrs. Neidert's 2nd Grade class's author celebration where they share the stories they have been working on in writing. The kids were so excited to get invited to the big school! We are headed over there after nap. Then recess and our popcorn/movie afternoon begins. I brought along my air popper so they can see how popping popcorn happens, I am expecting a lot of surprised giggles! We got to look at a lot of P words today thanks to Quinn (and her Mommy). Thank you all for your help in sending back the letter bag each week, the kids love seeing what gets brought in.
I misinformed you all yesterday, the quarter ends today but assessments will be sent home next week when the grade cards for the big kids go home. Sorry for the mix up.
Next week we will be doing Jj for Jack-O-Lanterns and talking about the Rosary (since October is the month of the Rosary). We will see if George can make it that long, otherwise we may carve another Jack-O-Lantern next week.
Have a great weekend! We will see you after school.

A Newsworthy Thursday

Good Afternoon! Sorry I haven't gotten a letter out in a while but I am back now with a lot to say, so I am going to put it into bullet points (also bullet points are fun):

  • Thank you to all of the moms, dads, Gammies, and Aunties who came on our field trip today! It was so nice to get to see you all! The kiddos and I had so much fun!!! I hope you all did too, in spite of the dreary weather.
  • First quarter ends Friday. I have been doing assessments with the kids this week, they will go home tomorrow. They are doing really well on them. Since they are 3 or barely 4, the assessment may or may not seem impressive, please do not give it that much thought. My philosophy is that they are learning so many new social and personal things now, that academic successes may not be able to be measured on an assessment, if they are going home happy, with stories to tell about their adventures that day, I consider that a success.
  • Tomorrow, October 13th will be a Pajama Day for letter P, we will be popping popcorn, tasting pumpkin seeds, and reading Spookly the Square Pumpkin. And Yes, Miss Brittney will definitely be wearing her Pajamas to school!!!!
  • Parent lunch S-Z is scheduled for Tuesday, October 24th. Call the office to make your reservation.
Ok I think that is it...Sorry for the information overload! Can't wait to see all the kiddos wearing their Pajama Jams to school tomorrow. Have a great evening! See you in the morning.

Friday Announcements

Today we did my favorite kind of learning, learning by eating! We made firetrucks out of graham crackers, peanut butter, cookies, and sirens and ladders out of fruit snacks and pretzels. The kiddos had such a fun time assembling their fire trucks and of course eating them! I feel like when you can connect food to learning it makes it so much more memorable (and fun!), seriously, I brought cookies to my math class in college six times to prove this point :)
I just wanted to say thank you so much for getting those field trip forms in so quickly, as of 8 am this morning we have everything prepared and ready for next Thursday! Parents like y'all make my job such a joy! It is also great to see so many family members taking time out of their days to come with us. I am so sorry to all of those who will not be able to take off to come but I promise to take a lot of pictures and we will have other events!
Speaking of events, Halloween is approaching quickly! We Preschool Teachers have nailed down a schedule of events that I will type up and hand out on Monday. The kiddos and I will begin decorating and crafting for the holiday next week so keep an eye on our changing classroom;)
Next week is also the end of the 1st quarter (yes, somehow we have already gone through 8 weeks of school😲), I will be doing assessments on the munchkins, just to see where we are at and where we need to go from here. I will be sending them home after I have completed all of them. Please keep in mind, these are mostly to direct my teaching. They are still little kids and they are learning something everyday! Our main goal right now is learning how to be in school (which they are kind of doing AWESOME at! :)
Have a funtastic weekend! See you after school.

Fire truck Visit!

We had quite an exciting visit with the firefighters! We got to go through the truck and sit in the firefighters seat. Then we got to see a fireman put on all of his gear. While they were here they got called to an accident so we got to see and hear them leave on a call!!! There's never a dull moment in Preschool:)

Rolling Right Through Tuesday

Good Afternoon! Today we got to practice how to stop, drop, and roll after reading about how Clifford the Big Red Dog taught children to do this for fire safety. We also talked about what our Fire Safety or Fire Drill plan at school is. We did a super adorable paper today where they had to look at the number on the firehouse dog's hat and then put that many spots on the dog. Then we cut them out and glued them down in number order. These kiddos are very good counters and have a pretty good concept of number order!
This afternoon we get to celebrate Brody's birthday with cookies! Happy Birthday, Brody! Thank you to Brody and his mommy for bringing in cookies today! They are so excited for them and Brody is very excited to help pass out his treats.
Please remember to send in field trip permission forms, with payment by Friday! Thanks!
Have a fantastic, cloudy afternoon, see you after school!

Safety First and Secret Surprises!

Good Afternoon! Today is the beginning of fire safety week in our class and we started it off by going over what is safety and how do be safe. We even read a story about baby Mickey being safe. We did a worksheet where we had to follow directions and circle things that are safe to touch. I had a proud teacher moment at snack today. They had Graham crackers, when they broke them they were all like "look! Now we have halves." Then someone broke them in half again and was like "yeah and now I have fourths" Yay for remembering what we learned last week!!!!
In holiday news-we got Boo-ed today! Someone gave us a bowl of Halloween treats with a note asking us to secretly boo another class, so they helped me put together a boo basket and we are going to sneak deliver it to Mrs. Ratcliff and Miss Judy's class this afternoon. I have been told the big school is also getting Boo-ed so if you have bigger kids, help the little ones keep the secret;)
Thanks for turning in those permission forms so quickly. If you didn't turn yours in, no worries we just need them by Friday. Thanks! See you after school.
Miss Brittney
P.S. If you want to Boo, your family members or your neighbors I will gladly make a copy of the letter we received! I love this! It's a great way to spread holiday spirit and teach the kiddos how much fun it can be to give to others:)

Happy Summer!
